Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Ziti

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the ziti pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

House Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the Sauce

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cheese Mixture Preparation

  1. 3

    Combine the Cheeses

In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 2 cups of shredded mozzarella, 1 cup of grated parmesan, and 1 cup of shredded fontina. Mix well to combine.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 4

    Layer the Ingredients

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large baking dish, spread a thin layer of the sauce on the bottom. Layer half of the cooked ziti over the sauce, followed by half of the cheese mixture, and then half of the remaining sauce. Repeat the layers, finishing with the remaining sauce on top.

  2. 5

    Add Toppings and Bake

Sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella and grated parmesan on top of the final layer. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
