Preparation
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Place the long-grain white rice in a fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps the rice remain fluffy.

Cooking

- 4
Toast the Rice
Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan and stir to coat the grains in the oil. Toast the rice for about 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until it becomes slightly golden.
- 5
Add Liquids and Spices
Pour in the chicken broth, then add the bay leaf, salt, black pepper, and cumin. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a boil.
- 6
Simmer the Rice
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let it simmer for about 15-18 minutes, or until the rice is tender and all the liquid has been absorbed.
- 7
Remove from Heat
After the rice has cooked, remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes to steam.
- 8
Fluff and Garnish
Remove the bay leaf from the rice. Use a fork to fluff the rice gently, then stir in the chopped fresh parsley for garnish.
