Base Oatmeal

Stir-ins & Sweeteners

Method

Base Oatmeal

  1. 1

    Combine liquids and oats

In a small saucepan, combine 1.25 cups water and 0.5 cup whole milk. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Add oats and salt

Whisk in 1 cup rolled oats and a pinch of fine salt. Reduce heat to low so the mixture maintains a gentle simmer.

  3. 3

    Cook to desired consistency

Cook, stirring frequently (every 30–45 seconds) for 5–7 minutes until oats are tender and the mixture is creamy. For thicker oats cook an additional 1–2 minutes; for looser oats add up to 2 tablespoons water or milk.

Stir-ins & Sweeteners

  1. 4

    Finish with butter and sweeteners

Remove saucepan from heat. Stir in 1 teaspoon unsalted butter, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 teaspoon maple syrup and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract until fully incorporated and smooth.

  2. 5

    Optional protein or seeds

If using protein powder or collagen, whisk the scoop into 1–2 tablespoons warm milk from the pot until dissolved, then stir into the oatmeal. Add 1 teaspoon chia seeds if desired and let sit 1 minute to hydrate.

Fruit & Toppings

  1. 6

    Assemble bowl

Spoon the cooked oatmeal into a serving bowl. Arrange banana slices and 1/4 cup fresh berries on top.

  2. 7

    Add crunch and spice

Sprinkle 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts and 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon over the fruit.

  3. 8

    Finish

Scatter a small pinch of flaky sea salt over the bowl to brighten flavors. Taste and add an extra drizzle of maple syrup or a pinch more salt/sugar to preference.
