Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F or 43°C) with sugar and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.
- 4
Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Assembling the Pizza
- 5
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
- 6
Roll Out the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it onto a floured surface. Roll it out into a thin circle about 12 inches in diameter. Transfer to a pizza peel or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 7
Add Sauce and Toppings
Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top, then add pepperoni, sliced bell peppers, and black olives. Finish with a sprinkle of dried oregano.
- 8
Bake the Pizza
Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
- 9
Garnish and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves, slice, and serve hot.
