For the mascarpone mixture

Method

Prepare the coffee mixture

  1. 1

    Brew the espresso

Brew 1 cup of strong espresso coffee and let it cool to room temperature.

  2. 2

    Mix in liqueur and sugar

In a shallow dish, combine the cooled espresso, coffee liqueur, and granulated sugar. Stir until the sugar has dissolved.

Prepare the mascarpone mixture

  1. 3

    Whisk egg yolks and sugar

In a mixing bowl, whisk together 3 egg yolks and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until pale and creamy.

  2. 4

    Add mascarpone

Gently fold in 1 cup of mascarpone cheese until fully incorporated.

  3. 5

    Whip the cream

In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream with 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until soft peaks form.

  4. 6

    Combine mixtures

Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until smooth and well combined.

Assemble the tiramisu

  1. 7

    Dip the ladyfingers

Quickly dip each ladyfinger cookie into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not overly soggy.

  2. 8

    Layer the cookies

Place a layer of soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a rectangular dish.

  3. 9

    Add mascarpone mixture

Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the layer of ladyfingers.

  4. 10

    Repeat layers

Repeat the process with another layer of soaked ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture.

  5. 11

    Chill

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

  6. 12

    Serve

Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and add dark chocolate shavings if desired.
