Base Ingredients

Creaminess Enhancers

Garnishes (optional)

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Water

In a large saucepan, bring the 4 cups of water to a boil over medium-high heat.

  2. 2

    Add the Salt

Once the water is boiling, add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water.

  3. 3

    Add the Polenta

Gradually whisk in 1 cup of polenta (cornmeal) to the boiling water to prevent lumps from forming.

Cooking the Polenta

  1. 4

    Reduce Heat

Reduce the heat to low and continue to cook the polenta, stirring frequently with a wooden spoon or whisk, for about 30-40 minutes, or until it thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pan.

  2. 5

    Incorporate the Creaminess Enhancers

Once the polenta is cooked, remove it from the heat and stir in 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, and 0.5 cup of heavy cream until well combined and creamy.

Serving

  1. 6

    Plate the Polenta

Spoon the soft polenta into serving bowls or plates.

  2. 7

    Add Garnishes

Optional: Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with freshly chopped herbs, and season with black pepper to taste before serving.
