Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and cut them into evenly sized chunks, about 1-2 inches each.

  2. 2

    Prepare Garlic

Peel the garlic cloves and set them aside.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Boil Potatoes

In a large pot, add the potato chunks and cover them with water. Bring to a boil and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

  2. 4

    Cook Garlic

In the last 5 minutes of boiling, add the garlic cloves to the pot to soften them.

  3. 5

    Drain Potatoes

Once the potatoes and garlic are cooked, drain them in a colander and return them to the pot.

Mashing

  1. 6

    Mash Potatoes and Garlic

Using a potato masher or fork, mash the potatoes and garlic together until smooth.

  2. 7

    Add Butter and Cream

Add the unsalted butter and heavy cream to the mashed potatoes and mix until creamy and well combined.

  3. 8

    Season

Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Mix well. Optionally, fold in chopped chives for extra flavor.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve

Transfer the garlic mashed potatoes to a serving bowl and serve warm as a side dish.
