Chocolate Mousse Ingredients

Method

Chocolate Mousse Directions

  1. 1

    Melt the Chocolate

In a microwave-safe bowl, add the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until completely melted and smooth. Allow the melted chocolate to cool slightly.

  2. 2

    Whip the Cream

In a large mixing bowl, pour the heavy cream. Using an electric mixer, whip the cream on medium speed until soft peaks form. Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue whipping until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to overwhip.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In another bowl, separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. Add the egg yolks to the cooled melted chocolate along with the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Mix well until fully combined.

  4. 4

    Beat the Egg Whites

In a clean bowl, whip the egg whites using an electric mixer until soft peaks form. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the chocolate mixture until fully incorporated.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate and egg mixture in three additions. Be careful to maintain the light and airy texture of the mousse.

  6. 6

    Chill the Mousse

Transfer the chocolate mousse into serving cups or bowls. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.

  7. 7

    Serve

Once set, serve the chocolate mousse chilled. Optionally, top with whipped cream or chocolate shavings before serving.
