Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (1.5 cups) with sugar (1 tbsp) and active dry yeast (2 tsp). Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, mix together bread flour (4 cups) and salt (1 tsp).
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the dry ingredients along with vegetable oil (1 tbsp). Mix until a dough forms.
- 4
Knead Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shape Bagels
After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then poke a hole through the center to form a bagel shape.
- 7
Second Rise
Place the shaped bagels on a floured baking sheet and cover them with a damp cloth. Let them rest for about 15 minutes.
- 8
- 9
Boil Bagels
Carefully drop the bagels into the boiling water (2-3 at a time) and boil for 1 minute on each side. Remove them with a slotted spoon and place them back on the baking sheet.
Baking

Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
