Cocktail Base

Method

Cocktail Preparation

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a margarita or rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill and then discard before serving.

  2. 2

    Prepare glass rim

Rub a lime wedge around the rim of the chilled glass. Pour the coarse salt onto a small plate and gently press the moistened rim into the salt to coat evenly. Set the glass aside.

  3. 3

    Measure ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 oz Corazón Reposado tequila, 0.5 oz Grand Marnier, 0.5 oz organic agave nectar, 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.25 oz fresh lemon juice. Using fresh-squeezed citrus yields the best brightness and balance.

  4. 4

    Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with enough cubed ice to mostly fill the tin (about 3/4 full). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and the mixture is well-chilled and slightly diluted.

  5. 5

    Strain and serve

Discard the ice from the chilled, salted-rim glass if you used ice to chill. Fill the glass with fresh ice (about 3/4 cup). Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared glass over fresh ice to remove any small ice shards and pulp.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim and, if desired, a lemon twist for an added citrus aroma. Serve immediately.
