For each cocktail

Method

Prepare and build

  1. 1

    Chill the mug (optional)

If you prefer an extra-cold drink, place the copper mug in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare ingredients, then discard the water.

  2. 2

Fill the chilled copper mug or highball glass about three-quarters full with fresh cubed ice.

  3. 3

Measure 2 oz vodka with a jigger and pour it over the ice.

  4. 4

Measure and add 0.5 oz (about 1/2 oz) freshly squeezed lime juice. Squeeze from a lime using a juicer or by hand to ensure freshness.

  5. 5

Top with approximately 4 oz ginger beer (adjust to taste). Pour gently to preserve carbonation.

  6. 6

Give the cocktail a gentle stir with a bar spoon 2–3 times to combine vodka, lime juice, and ginger beer. Avoid over-stirring to retain fizz.

Garnish and serve

  1. 7

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim and, if desired, lightly slap a mint sprig between your palms to release aroma and tuck it beside the lime.

  2. 8

Serve immediately while very cold. Provide a straw if preferred.
