Flan Ingredients

Method

Flan Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Caramel

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the granulated sugar until it turns a golden brown color. Be careful not to burn it. Once melted, quickly pour the caramel into a round baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Custard Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine and Bake

Pour the custard mixture over the hardened caramel in the baking dish. Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan filled with hot water (water bath). Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.

  4. 4

    Cool and Serve

Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool to room temperature. Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. To serve, run a knife around the edge of the flan and invert onto a serving plate, allowing the caramel to drizzle over the top.
