Preparation of Ingredients

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Remove the New York strip steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking. This helps to ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Prep the Mushrooms

Clean the mushrooms with a damp cloth to remove any dirt. Slice them into thick pieces.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Black Garlic

Peel the black garlic cloves and mash them into a paste using the back of a knife or a mortar and pestle.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Season the Steak

Rub the New York strip steak with olive oil, then season generously with salt and black pepper on both sides.

  2. 5

    Cook the Steak

Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the steak in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is reached.

  3. 6

    Sauté the Mushrooms

In the same skillet, after removing the steak, add a little more olive oil if necessary. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown and tender.

  4. 7

    Combine with Black Garlic

Add the black garlic paste to the mushrooms and stir well. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to let the flavors meld.

  5. 8

    Serve

Slice the New York strip steak and plate it. Top with the sautéed mushrooms and black garlic mixture. Serve immediately.
