Burger Patties

Toppings

Method

Prepare the Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Clean the Mushrooms

Gently wipe each Portobello mushroom with a damp cloth to remove any dirt. Remove the stems and scrape out the gills with a spoon.

  2. 2

    Season the Mushrooms

In a large mixing bowl, combine olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Add the cleaned Portobello mushrooms and toss to coat them evenly with the mixture.

  3. 3

    Grill the Mushrooms

Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium heat. Place the seasoned mushrooms on the grill and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side, until they are tender and have nice grill marks.

  4. 4

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of grilling, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each mushroom patty to melt slightly.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 5

    Prep the Vegetables

While the mushrooms are grilling, slice the tomato and onion. Wash and dry the lettuce leaves.

  2. 6

    Toast the Buns

Optionally, toast the burger buns on the grill for a minute or two until golden brown.

  3. 7

    Build the Burger

Spread mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard on the bottom half of each toasted burger bun. Place a grilled mushroom patty on top, followed by a slice of tomato, onion, and a leaf of lettuce. Top with the other half of the bun.
