Method

Preparing the Patties

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined; do not overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Shape Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to help it cook evenly.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a little oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until a crust forms, then flip. Add a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty and cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the patties reach your desired doneness.

Assembling the Hamburger

  1. 5

    Prepare Buns

While the patties are cooking, slice the hamburger buns in half and toast them lightly on the grill or in a toaster.

  2. 6

    Assemble

On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese. Add a slice of tomato, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
