Method

Filling Preparation

  1. 1

    Prep the Filling

In a food processor, combine the walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon. Pulse until the walnuts are finely chopped and well combined with the sugar and cinnamon.

  2. 2

    Melt Butter

In a small saucepan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over low heat. This will be used to brush the phyllo dough.

Pastry Assembly

  1. 3

    Prepare Phyllo Dough

Unroll the phyllo dough and cover it with a damp kitchen towel to prevent it from drying out. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 4

    Layer the Phyllo

Take one sheet of phyllo dough and brush it with melted butter. Repeat this process with 5 more sheets, layering them on top of each other.

  3. 5

    Add Filling

Sprinkle a portion of the filling over the layered phyllo dough, spreading it evenly.

  4. 6

    Roll the Dough

Starting from one end, carefully roll the phyllo dough tightly into a log shape. Place the rolled baklava on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  5. 7

    Repeat

Repeat the layering and rolling process with the remaining phyllo sheets and filling.

Baking

  1. 8

    Bake the Baklava

Bake the assembled baklava in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.

Syrup Preparation

  1. 9

    Make the Syrup

In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, honey, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Finishing Touch

  1. 10

    Drizzle Syrup

Once the baklava has cooled for about 10 minutes, pour the warm syrup evenly over the baklava rolls, allowing it to soak in.

  2. 11

    Cool and Serve

Allow the baklava to cool completely before slicing and serving.
