Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Muddle the Brown Sugar

Place the brown sugar cube in an old-fashioned glass. Add a few dashes of aromatic bitters and a splash of water to help dissolve the sugar. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently crush the sugar until it is mostly dissolved.

  2. 2

    Add Bitters

Add the cherry bitters and orange bitters to the muddled sugar mixture. Stir gently to combine the flavors.

  3. 3

    Pour in the Rye

Measure and pour 2 oz of rye whiskey into the glass over the muddled sugar and bitters mixture.

  4. 4

    Add Ice

Add 3 ice cubes to the glass. You can adjust the number of ice cubes based on how cold you prefer your drink.

  5. 5

    Stir the Mixture

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture gently for about 20-30 seconds to chill the drink and combine the flavors.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink by holding it over the glass and giving it a gentle twist. Then place the orange peel slice into the glass as a garnish.
