Method
Meatball Preparation
- 1
Mix the Meatball Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground veal, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined, but do not overwork the meat.
- 2
Form the Meatballs
Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 3
Bake the Meatballs
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes or until they are cooked through and browned on the outside.
Pomodoro Sauce Preparation
- 4
Sauté Onion and Garlic
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Then add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- 5
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Pour in the canned whole tomatoes, breaking them up with a spoon. Add fresh basil, salt, and black pepper. Let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 6
Combine Meatballs with Sauce
Once the meatballs are done, add them to the pomodoro sauce and let them simmer together for an additional 10 minutes.
Polenta Preparation
- 7
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add 1 teaspoon of salt.
- 8
Cook the Polenta
Once the water is boiling, gradually whisk in the polenta. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring frequently, until the polenta thickens, about 15-20 minutes.
- 9
Finish the Polenta
Remove the pot from heat and stir in the butter and grated Parmesan cheese until melted and creamy.
