Parker House Loaf
Method
Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm milk. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs. Mix until combined.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Incorporate the chopped rosemary while kneading.
- 3
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 4
Shape the Loaf
After the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
- 5
Second Rise
Cover the loaf with a damp cloth and let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
- 6
Bake the Loaf
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and it sounds hollow when tapped.
- 7
Make the Rosemary Butter
While the loaf is baking, mix softened butter with chopped fresh rosemary in a small bowl.
- 8
Serve
Allow the loaf to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with rosemary butter and orange marmalade on the side.
