Method

Prepare Meatballs

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Shape Meatballs

Using your hands, shape the mixture into meatballs about 1 inch in diameter.

  3. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes until cooked through.

Prepare Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

  2. 5

    Cook Sauce

Add canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and fresh basil. Stir well and let the sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Assemble Sandwich

  1. 6

    Toast Rolls (Optional)

If desired, toast the sub rolls in the oven until lightly golden.

  2. 7

    Add Meatballs and Sauce

Place 2-3 meatballs in each sub roll and generously spoon marinara sauce over the meatballs.

  3. 8

    Add Cheese

Top each sandwich with a slice of provolone cheese and sprinkle with Romano cheese.

  4. 9

    Melt Cheese

Return the assembled sandwiches to the oven for an additional 5 minutes to melt the cheese.

  5. 10

    Serve

Remove from the oven, serve hot, and enjoy your Classic Meatball Sandwich!
