Method

Preparation of Meatballs

  1. 1

    Combine Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, eggs, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place the formed meatballs on a baking sheet.

  3. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through.

Preparation of Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent. Add minced garlic and sauté for another 2 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring the sauce to a simmer.

  3. 6

    Simmer Sauce

Let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally to let the flavors meld.

  4. 7

    Combine Meatballs with Sauce

Once baked, gently add the meatballs to the marinara sauce and let simmer for an additional 10 minutes.

Serving

  1. 8

    Prepare for Serving

Slice the baked rolls in half. Place a meatball (or two) on each roll and top with marinara sauce. Add a slice of provolone cheese on top of the meatball.

  2. 9

    Garnish

Sprinkle with grated Romano cheese before serving.

  3. 10

    Enjoy

Serve the meatball sandwiches hot and enjoy!
