Brownie Layer

Method

Brownie Layer

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.

  2. 2

    Melt Butter and Mix Sugars

In a medium saucepan, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in 1 cup granulated sugar and 1 cup brown sugar until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then add 4 large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in 2 tsp of vanilla extract.

  4. 4

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, and 0.5 tsp salt.

  5. 5

    Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Stir in 1 cup chocolate chips.

  6. 6

    Bake the Brownie Layer

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out mostly clean from the center.

  1. 7

In a large bowl, cream together 0.5 cup unsalted butter, 0.5 cup granulated sugar, and 0.5 cup brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in 1 large egg and 1 tsp vanilla extract.

  2. 8

In a separate bowl, whisk together 1.5 cups all-purpose flour, 0.5 tsp baking soda, and 0.25 tsp salt.

  3. 9

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in 1 cup chocolate chips.

  4. 10

Once the brownie layer has finished baking, remove from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes. Spread the cookie dough evenly over the brownie layer.

  5. 11

Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the cookie layer is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

  6. 12

Allow the brookie to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares and serving.
