Ingredients
Cocktail
Cocktail
1. Chill glass
Place a rocks or coupe glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill the glass.
2. Prepare mixing glass
Fill a mixing glass (or the chilled glass if you don't have a mixing glass) with 4–6 large ice cubes to properly chill and dilute the spirit as you stir.
3. Measure and pour
Pour 2.5 oz Hennessy Paradis (or high-quality Hennessy cognac) into the mixing glass. Add 0.25 oz dry vermouth, 2 dashes of orange bitters and, if you prefer a touch of sweetness, 0.25 tsp simple syrup.
4. Stir to chill and dilute
Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture gently but thoroughly for 30–45 seconds (about 20–30 strokes) until the liquid is well chilled and slightly diluted. Stirring, rather than shaking, keeps the cognac silky.
5. Strain
Discard the ice or water from your chilled serving glass. Double-strain the stirred cocktail into the chilled rocks or coupe glass over a single large ice cube if desired, or neat for an elegant presentation.
6. Garnish
Express the oils of a lemon twist over the drink by holding the twist skin-side down above the glass and giving it a quick squeeze, then run the twist around the rim and drop it into the drink as a garnish.
7. Serve
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the layered floral, spice and oak notes of the Paradis cognac complemented by the subtle vermouth and orange bitters.
