Method

Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Pat the ribeye steak dry with paper towels. Season generously with salt and black pepper on both sides.

  2. 2

    Heat the Pan

In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers.

  3. 3

    Cook the Steak

Add the ribeye steak to the skillet. Sear for 4-5 minutes on one side until a nice crust forms.

  4. 4

    Add Garlic and Thyme

Flip the steak and add the crushed garlic cloves and thyme sprigs to the skillet. Cook for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, basting the steak with the oil and juices.

  5. 5

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes Preparation

  1. 6

    Boil the Potatoes

Peel and cut the potatoes into quarters. Place in a large pot, cover with water, and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 7

    Prepare Garlic

During the last 5 minutes of cooking, add the garlic cloves to the pot with the potatoes to soften them.

  3. 8

    Drain and Mash

Drain the potatoes and garlic, then return them to the pot. Add butter, heavy cream, salt, and pepper.

  4. 9

    Mash Until Smooth

Use a potato masher to mash the mixture until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to taste.
