For the Mozzarella Sticks

Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese

Cut the mozzarella cheese sticks in half if desired, for easier handling and quicker frying.

  2. 2

    Set up Breading Station

In three separate bowls, place the flour, beaten eggs, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese

Coat each mozzarella stick in flour, then dip it in the beaten eggs, and finally roll it in the breadcrumb mixture until fully covered.

  4. 4

    Freeze the Mozzarella Sticks

Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 30 minutes to an hour.

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  6. 6

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 7

    Sauté the Garlic

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, sugar, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

  3. 9

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 10

    Finish with Basil

Stir in the chopped fresh basil at the end of cooking, then remove from heat.
