Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Huckleberries

Wash the huckleberries thoroughly under cold water. Remove any stems or debris and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Ginger

Peel and thinly slice the fresh ginger. Measure out 2 tablespoons and set aside.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a large pot, combine the huckleberries, fresh ginger, apple cider, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and water.

  4. 4

    Simmer the Mixture

Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir occasionally to dissolve the brown sugar.

  5. 5

    Cook and Infuse

Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture cook for about 30 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld together.

  6. 6

    Strain the Cider

After 30 minutes, remove the pot from heat. Use a fine mesh strainer to strain out the solids, pressing down on the huckleberries and ginger to extract as much liquid as possible.

  7. 7

    Serve

Pour the strained cider into mugs or heatproof glasses. Serve warm, optionally garnished with a cinnamon stick or a few whole cloves.
