Method
Fried Pickles Directions
- 1
Prepare the Pickles
If using whole pickles, slice them into 1/4 inch thick slices. Pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.
- 3
Add Buttermilk
Gradually stir in the buttermilk until you achieve a smooth batter. The consistency should be thick enough to coat the pickles.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Pickles
Dip each pickle slice into the batter, allowing excess batter to drip off. Carefully place the battered pickles into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried pickles with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
