Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

    Mix the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Whisk until well combined.

  2. 3

    Add Water

Gradually add the cold water to the dry ingredients, stirring until the batter is smooth and has a thick consistency.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated, and allow excess batter to drip off.

  3. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
