Method
Cake Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well combined.
- 3
- 4
Incorporate Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water to the batter. The batter will be thin; this is normal.
- 5
Bake the Cakes
Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 6
Cool the Cakes
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Ganache Frosting Preparation
- 7
Heat the Cream
In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Do not boil.
- 8
Melt the Chocolate
Remove the saucepan from heat and add the chocolate chips. Let sit for 2-3 minutes to soften, then stir until smooth.
- 9
Add Butter
Stir in the butter until fully melted and incorporated. Allow the ganache to cool at room temperature until it thickens slightly.
Assembly
- 10
Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of ganache on top, then place the second layer on top of that. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining ganache.
- 11
Serve
Slice the cake and serve it at room temperature. Enjoy your rich chocolate cake!
