Single Serving Bottle
Method
Preparing a Single Serving Bottle
- 1
Sanitize (optional, recommended for refillable bottles)
If using a refillable bottle, rinse it with potable water. Prepare a mild sanitizing solution (about 50 ppm chlorine: roughly 5 ml household bleach in 1 L water for small volumes). Pour enough of the solution into the bottle to coat the interior, swirl for 30 seconds, then discard. Rinse twice with potable water to remove residual sanitizer.
- 2
Inspect Bottle and Cap
Check the bottle and cap for cracks, debris, or damage. Ensure the cap threads and seal are clean and dry. If the bottle is a single-use sealed bottle purchased full, skip to 'Seal and Label'.
- 3
Fill Bottle
Using potable spring or purified water at a safe temperature (room temperature or chilled), pour or dispense 500 ml into the bottle. Leave a small headspace of about 1–2 cm (0.4–0.8 in) to allow for thermal expansion and proper sealing.

- 5
Label (optional)
If desired, attach a label with the water source, bottling date, and any treatment details. For single servings, mark the date and 'drink within 48 hours' if the bottle will be opened and stored at room temperature; otherwise, sealed bottles from a safe source can be stored until the printed expiry.
- 6
Storage
Store the sealed bottle upright in a cool, dark place away from chemicals, direct sunlight, or strong odors. Once opened, consume within 24–48 hours if kept refrigerated; otherwise consume immediately.
- 7
Serving
To serve, open the cap by twisting counterclockwise. Pour into a clean glass or drink directly from the bottle. Reseal if you will save any for later and refrigerate promptly.
