Method
Cooking the Pasta
Boil the Water
In a large pot, bring salted water to a rolling boil.
Cook the Fettuccine
Add the fettuccine pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.
Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, drain the fettuccine in a colander, reserving about 1 cup of pasta water for later use.
Making the Alfredo Sauce
Melt the Butter
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.
Pour in Heavy Cream
Slowly pour in the heavy cream, stirring constantly, and bring to a gentle simmer.
Incorporate Parmesan
Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
Season the Sauce
Add salt, black pepper, and ground nutmeg to the sauce, stirring well to combine.
Combining Pasta and Sauce
Combine Fettuccine and Sauce
Add the drained fettuccine to the skillet with the Alfredo sauce, tossing to coat the pasta evenly.
Adjust Consistency
If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water a little at a time until the desired consistency is achieved.
Serve
Serve the Fettuccine Alfredo hot, garnished with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
