Preparation Steps
Prepare the Balsamic Reduction
In a small saucepan, add the balsamic vinegar and bring it to a gentle boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vinegar has thickened and reduced by half. Remove from heat and let it cool.
Slice the Fresh Mozzarella
While the balsamic reduction is cooling, slice the fresh mozzarella into ¼ inch thick slices and set aside.
Slice the Tomatoes
Wash the tomatoes and slice them into ¼ inch thick slices. Set aside.
Assemble the Salad
On a serving platter, alternate layers of fresh mozzarella and tomato slices. Tuck fresh basil leaves in between the layers.
Dress the Salad
Drizzle olive oil and the balsamic reduction over the assembled salad. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Serve
Serve immediately, garnished with extra basil leaves if desired.
