Preparation of Ingredients
Brew the Espresso
Brew 1 cup of strong espresso coffee and allow it to cool slightly. Stir in 2 tablespoons of coffee liqueur and set aside.
Prepare the Cream Mixture
In a mixing bowl, whisk together 3 egg yolks and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and thick. Gently fold in 1 cup of mascarpone cheese and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth. In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined.
Assembling the Tiramisu
Dip the Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger cookie into the espresso mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.
Layering
Arrange half of the soaked ladyfingers in a single layer at the bottom of a rectangular or square dish. Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the ladyfingers, smoothing it out with a spatula.
Repeat the Layers
Repeat the process with another layer of soaked ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone cream mixture.
Chilling and Serving
Chill the Tiramisu
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (preferably overnight) to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.
Garnish and Serve
Before serving, sift 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder over the top of the tiramisu and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings for decoration. Cut into squares and serve chilled.
