Method
Marinating the Chicken
- 1
Prepare the Marinade
In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk and hot sauce. This will act as the marinade for the chicken.
- 2
Marinate the Chicken
Add the chicken thighs to the buttermilk mixture, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
Making Nashville Hot Seasoning
- 3
Combine Spices
In a small bowl, mix together the paprika, cayenne pepper, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. This seasoning mix will provide the signature Nashville heat.
Frying the Chicken
- 4
Prepare the Frying Mix
In a shallow dish, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and black pepper.
- 5
Dredge the Chicken
Remove the marinated chicken from the buttermilk and allow excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.
- 6
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 7
Fry the Chicken
Carefully place the dredged chicken thighs into the hot oil. Fry for about 6-8 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and place on a wire rack to drain excess oil.
- 8
Add Nashville Hot Seasoning
In a large bowl, mix the fried chicken with the Nashville hot seasoning, coating each piece evenly.
Assembling the Sandwich
- 9
- 10
Assemble the Sandwich
Place a piece of the Nashville hot chicken on the bottom half of the bun. Top with pickles and a generous scoop of coleslaw. Place the top half of the bun on to complete the sandwich.
