Method
Chocolate Mousse Preparation
- 1
Melt the Chocolate and Butter
In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Set over a pot of simmering water (double boiler) and stir until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- 2
Whisk the Eggs and Sugar
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt until the mixture is pale and thick (about 5 minutes).
- 3
Combine Mixtures
Slowly fold the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture using a spatula. Add vanilla extract and mix until well combined.
- 4
Chill the Mousse
Pour the mousse into serving dishes or cups and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.
Whipped Cream Preparation
- 5
Prepare the Whipped Cream
In a mixing bowl, pour in the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Using an electric mixer, beat on medium-high speed until soft peaks form (about 3-5 minutes).
- 6
Serve
Once the mousse is set, top each serving with a generous dollop of whipped cream before serving.
