Prepare the Pasta

Cook the Lasagna Noodles
In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Make the Meat Sauce

Cook the Meat
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.

Add Tomatoes and Spices
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Prepare the Cheese Mixture

Mix the Cheese
In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix until well combined.
Assemble the Lasagna

Layer Ingredients
In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of meat sauce and a layer of shredded mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers, ending with a final layer of noodles, meat sauce, and remaining mozzarella cheese on top.
Bake the Lasagna

Preheat Oven
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Bake
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Cool and Serve
Remove from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before slicing and serving.
