Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Prepare Kelp Root

Start by thoroughly washing the kelp root under cold running water to remove any dirt or sand. Pat dry with a clean kitchen towel.

  2. 2

    Slice Kelp Root

Using a sharp knife, slice the kelp root into thin strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick. This will help in even cooking and enhance the texture.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). This will ensure that the kelp root crisps up nicely.

  2. 4

    Season Kelp Root

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced kelp root, olive oil, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, paprika, and lemon juice. Toss well until the kelp root is evenly coated with the seasoning.

  3. 5

    Arrange on Baking Sheet

Spread the seasoned kelp root strips in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure they are not overlapping to ensure even cooking.

  4. 6

    Bake

Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the kelp root is golden brown and crispy. Halfway through, stir the kelp root to promote even browning.

Serving

  1. 7

    Add Optional Toppings

Once the kelp root is baked to a crispy texture, remove from the oven and sprinkle with sesame seeds and chili flakes if desired.

  2. 8

    Cool and Serve

Allow the kelp root to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy as a unique snack on its own or with your favorite dipping sauce.
