Chill glass
Fill a rocks glass with ice to chill while preparing the drink; discard ice after chilling.

Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add the rye whiskey, fresh blood orange juice, vanilla syrup, and rye spice blend. Add ample ice to the shaker.

Shake
Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the mixture is well-chilled and properly diluted.

Strain and serve
Strain the cocktail into the previously chilled rocks glass over a large ice cube.

Garnish
Express the oils of a blood orange twist over the drink, rim the glass if desired, and drop the twist into the glass as garnish.
