Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Chill a highball or copper mule mug in the freezer for 5–10 minutes, or fill it with ice while you prepare ingredients to cool the vessel.

  2. 2

    Add spirits and mixers

Into the chilled mug or highball glass, add 1.5 oz vodka, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup (or agave).

  3. 3

    Add ice

Fill the glass with ice to near the top (about 1 cup of ice).

  4. 4

    Top with ginger beer

Pour 4.5 oz chilled ginger beer gently over the ice to preserve carbonation. Stir gently once or twice with a bar spoon to combine the vodka, lime and ginger beer without flattening it.

  5. 5

    Bitters and garnish

Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters on top, lightly stir once. Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge and an optional mint sprig — clap the mint between your palms and slap it against your wrist once to release aroma before placing it in the glass.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve immediately with a straw or stirrer. Encourage sipping slowly to enjoy the ginger aroma and effervescence.
