- 1
Prepare glass and muddle
Place 10 fresh mint leaves and 2 teaspoons granulated sugar into a sturdy Collins or highball glass. Add 1 fl oz fresh lime juice. Using a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon, gently press and twist the mint and sugar together just enough to release the mint oils and dissolve the sugar—do not shred the mint leaves into pieces; aim for fragrant bruising.

Top with soda and mix
Pour 3 fl oz club soda over the ice. Using a long bar spoon, gently stir the drink 6–8 times to lift the mint leaves through the drink and integrate the rum, lime, sugar, and soda without over-agitating (this preserves carbonation).

Garnish and serve
Top with a sprig of fresh mint and a lime wedge or wheel. Optionally slap the mint sprig once between your palms before garnishing to release additional aroma. Serve immediately with a straw.
