Method
Cocktail
- 1
Chill glass
Place a martini/coupe glass in the freezer or fill with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail (about 3–5 minutes).
- 2
Brew espresso
Brew a fresh shot of espresso (about 1 oz). Allow it to rest for 15–20 seconds so it's hot but not steaming; this helps create better crema when shaken.
- 3
Combine ingredients
Add 2 oz Ketel One vodka, 0.5 oz Galliano, 0.75 oz coffee liqueur, 1 oz freshly brewed espresso, and 0.25 oz simple syrup (optional for sweetness) into a cocktail shaker.
- 4
Add ice and dry-shake
Add a generous scoop of ice (about 1 cup). To develop a rich, creamy foam, first dry-shake the ingredients without ice for 8–10 seconds if you prefer extra froth. Then add the ice if you dry-shook first.
- 5
Shake vigorously
With ice in the shaker, shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels very cold and the mixture is well aerated. This chills the drink and creates a thick crema from the espresso.
- 6
Double strain and serve
Discard the ice/water from the chilled glass. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled martini/coupe glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and ensure a silky texture.
- 7
Garnish
Garnish with 3 coffee beans placed on the foam. Serve immediately.
