Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Clean the Octopus

If using a whole octopus, rinse it under cold water, removing any beak or innards. If it's already cleaned, just rinse it thoroughly.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Marinade

In a bowl, combine 60 ml of olive oil, 30 ml of lemon juice, minced garlic cloves, salt, and black pepper. Mix together until well blended.

  3. 3

    Marinate the Octopus

Place the cleaned octopus in a large resealable bag or bowl. Pour the marinade over it, ensuring the octopus is well-coated. Seal the bag or cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Grill

Preheat your grill to high heat. If using a charcoal grill, ensure the coals are glowing red with a light layer of ash.

Grilling

  1. 5

    Grill the Octopus

Once the grill is hot, remove the octopus from the marinade and let any excess drip off. Place the octopus on the grill. Grill for about 3-4 minutes per side until charred and cooked through, which usually takes about 12-15 minutes total.

  2. 6

    Check for Doneness

The octopus is done when it is tender and has a nice char. You can test this by piercing the thickest part with a fork; it should go through easily.

  3. 7

    Rest and Slice

Remove the grilled octopus from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes. Then slice it into smaller pieces for serving.

Serving

  1. 8

    Plate the Dish

Arrange the grilled octopus on a serving platter. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with lemon wedges on the side.
