Ingredients
Cannabis-Infused Spirit
Dilution & Flavoring
Finishing & Serving
Cannabis-Infused Spirit
1. Decarboxylation (if not already decarbed)
Preheat your oven to 240°F (115°C). Break cannabis into small pieces, spread in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and bake for 30–40 minutes, gently stirring or rotating the tray every 10 minutes to ensure even heating. Allow to cool. This step converts THCA to THC so infusion will be psychoactive.
2. Prepare infusion
Place the decarboxylated ground cannabis in a clean, dry 1-quart glass jar with a tight lid. Pour in 2 cups of high-proof neutral spirit so the plant material is fully submerged. Seal the jar and shake gently to combine.
3. Warm maceration (optional, speed infusion)
For a faster, controlled infusion, place the sealed jar in a warm water bath at 120–130°F (49–54°C) for 2–4 hours. Keep the water level below the jar lid and monitor temperature with a thermometer. Shake the jar gently every 30 minutes. Do not exceed 130°F to avoid damaging delicate terpenes and causing a harsh spirit.
4. Cold maceration (alternate)
Alternatively, store the sealed jar in a cool, dark place for 7–14 days, shaking once or twice daily for even extraction. Taste after 7 days and continue if a stronger profile is desired.
5. Strain
After infusion, strain the spirit through a fine mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth into a clean container. Compress the plant material gently to recover as much liquid as possible. For a clearer result, filter the strained spirit again through a coffee filter or paper filter.
6. Optional clarification
If the spirit is hazy or has vegetal flavors you want to reduce, add 1 tsp activated carbon to the strained spirit, stir gently, let sit 10–15 minutes, then re-filter through a paper coffee filter to remove charcoal. Note: charcoal will strip some flavor and cannabinoids; use sparingly.
Dilution & Flavoring
7. Prepare dilution water
Warm 1 cup distilled water to just below simmering (about 140–150°F / 60–65°C). This helps integrate the spirit and flavor components smoothly.
8. Combine and balance
In a clean mixing vessel, combine 1 cup of the infused spirit with the warmed distilled water. Add 2 tablespoons simple syrup, a pinch of salt, and the lemon peel. Stir gently and taste. Add crushed juniper berries and 1 tsp dried chamomile or lavender if using; steep the botanicals for 10–20 minutes to achieve the desired aroma.
9. Final filtration
Strain the diluted, flavored spirit through a fine mesh or paper filter to remove lemon peel, juniper, and floral material. Taste and adjust sweetness or dilution: add additional distilled water (1–2 tbsp at a time) if too strong, or a little more syrup if you prefer slightly sweet.
Finishing & Serving
10. Chill and rest
Transfer the finished Reframe Cannabis Spirit to a clean bottle and chill in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight. Cold resting helps flavors meld and clarity improve.
11. Serve
Serve chilled over ice (2–3 ice cubes) in a small rocks glass, garnished with a citrus wheel or a fresh twist. Sip slowly and be mindful of potency. Recommended serving size: 1–1.5 oz per person for a moderate effect depending on cannabis strength.
12. Storage
Store the spirit in a sealed bottle in the refrigerator for up to 3 months. Shake gently before each use. Keep out of reach of children and clearly label with cannabis content and approximate potency.
