Ingredients
Tempura Green Beans
Preparation
1. Prepare the Green Beans
In a bowl, wash and trim the green beans. Set aside.
2. Make the Tempura Batter
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add ice water, whisking until a smooth batter forms. It should be slightly lumpy.
3. Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
4. Fry the Green Beans
Dip each green bean into the tempura batter, allowing excess batter to drip off. Carefully place them in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.
5. Drain the Beans
Remove the fried green beans with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
