Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Coffee
Brew 1 cup of strong espresso coffee and let it cool. If using coffee liqueur, mix it with the coffee once cooled.
- 2
Make the Mascarpone Mixture
In a mixing bowl, separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. Beat the egg yolks with the sugar until pale and creamy. Slowly fold in the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract until smooth.
- 3
Assembly
- 4
Dip the Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee (and liqueur, if using) making sure not to soak them too long, then lay them in a single layer in a 9x13 inch dish.
- 5
Layer the Mixture
Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the layer of dipped ladyfingers, smoothing it out evenly.
- 6
Repeat the Layers
Repeat the process by dipping more ladyfingers and layering the remaining mascarpone mixture on top.
- 7
Chill the Tiramisu
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best flavor.
Serving
- 8
Dust with Cocoa Powder
Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder using a fine sieve.
- 9
Slice and Serve
Slice the tiramisu into squares and serve chilled, optionally garnished with chocolate shavings or coffee beans.
