Pasta

Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Drain and Set Aside

Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.

Cheese Sauce

  1. 3

    Make a Roux

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes until the mixture is bubbly and lightly golden.

  2. 4

    Add Milk

Gradually pour in the milk while continuing to whisk. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently until the sauce thickens.

  3. 5

    Incorporate Cheese

Reduce heat to low and add the shredded cheddar cheese and cream cheese. Stir until melted and smooth.

  4. 6

    Season the Sauce

Add mustard powder and black pepper to the cheese sauce, stirring until well combined.

Combine and Bake

  1. 7

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained pasta to the cheese sauce, stirring gently to coat all the pasta evenly.

  2. 8

    Prepare Topping

In a small bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, and olive oil until the breadcrumbs are evenly coated.

  3. 9

    Transfer to Baking Dish

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish and spread evenly.

  4. 10

    Add Topping

Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top of the macaroni and cheese.

  5. 11

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

  6. 12

    Cool and Serve

Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
