Pasta

Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Cheese Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the Roux

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Once melted, add the all-purpose flour and whisk continuously for about 1-2 minutes until it turns a light golden color.

  2. 3

    Create the Sauce

Gradually pour in the milk while whisking to prevent lumps. Continue cooking while stirring until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Add the Cheese and Seasonings

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the shredded Gouda cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt, black pepper to taste, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well.

Combining and Topping

  1. 5

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni and cheese sauce. Stir until the pasta is well coated with the sauce.

  2. 6

    Prepare the Topping

In a separate bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, and olive oil until the breadcrumbs are evenly coated.

  3. 7

    Assemble and Bake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the macaroni and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish. Sprinkle the breadcrumb topping evenly over the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
