Pork Preparation

To Assemble

Method

Pork Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

Rub the pork shoulder with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper evenly on all sides.

  2. 2

    Cook the Pork

Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Add apple cider vinegar and water. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart.

BBQ Sauce

  1. 3

    Make the BBQ Sauce

In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until slightly thickened.

To Assemble

  1. 4

    Shred the Pork

Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks. Discard any excess fat.

  2. 5

    Mix with BBQ Sauce

In a large bowl, toss the shredded pork with the prepared BBQ sauce until evenly coated.

  3. 6

    Assemble the Sandwich

Toast the hamburger buns if desired. Place a generous amount of BBQ pulled pork on the bottom half of each bun. Top with coleslaw if using, and cover with the top half of the bun.

  4. 7

    Serve

Serve the BBQ pulled pork sandwiches warm with extra BBQ sauce on the side.
