Method
Prepare the Protein
- 1
Cook the Protein
In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or chicken. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.
- 2
Add Seasoning
Once the meat is cooked, drain excess fat if necessary. Sprinkle taco seasoning over the meat and add water. Stir well to combine.
- 3
Simmer
Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Prepare Taco Shells
- 4
Warm the Shells
If using soft tortillas, warm them in a skillet for about 30 seconds on each side until pliable. If using crispy taco shells, you can bake them according to package instructions.
Assemble the Tacos
- 5
Fill the Shells
Take each taco shell and fill it with the seasoned protein mixture.
- 6
Add Toppings
Top the protein with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, and a dollop of sour cream.
- 7
Garnish
Add sliced jalapeños and chopped cilantro to taste.
