Method
Prepare Taco Shells
- 1
Warm the soft corn tortillas in a skillet over medium heat for 30 seconds on each side until pliable. Alternatively, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the hard taco shells for 5-7 minutes until crispy.
Cook Proteins
- 2
Ground Beef
In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned. Drain excess fat, then add taco seasoning and 1/4 cup of water. Stir and simmer for another 5 minutes.
- 3
Shredded Chicken
In another skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the shredded chicken and cook for 5 minutes. Add taco seasoning and 1/4 cup of water. Stir and simmer for 5 more minutes.
- 4
Black Beans
If using canned black beans, rinse and drain them. Heat them in a small pot over medium heat for 3-5 minutes until warm. Mix in 1 tablespoon of taco seasoning for added flavor.
Assemble Tacos
- 5
On each taco shell, layer your choice of protein (ground beef, shredded chicken, or black beans). Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and grated cheese.
- 6
Add a dollop of sour cream, a spoonful of salsa, and garnish with sliced jalapeños and chopped cilantro according to your taste.
- 7
Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side if desired.
